Temporary No-Parking Permit (Halteverbot)

Why it almost always pays for itself

Without a reserved space, the truck parks wherever a gap happens to be — often a long way from the front door. The extra carrying distance («Tragweg») burns working hours, and those hours cost several times the permit fee. For any clearance of medium size or larger in a densely built-up area, the no-parking zone is simply the cheaper option.

How the permit is applied for

The municipality is responsible; in the City of Zurich it is the traffic department (Dienstabteilung Verkehr). The application has to be filed several working days in advance — five to ten working days is the usual requirement. You state the location, the date, the duration and the length of kerb space you need.

Once the permit is granted, the signs have to be put up, as a rule at least 24 hours before the zone becomes valid, so that cars already parked there have time to move. If a vehicle is still standing in the zone on the day, it can be towed at the owner's expense.
