Why it weighs so heavily

Every meter of carrying distance is covered a hundred times over in a clearance. With 30 cubic meters of material, that means between 150 and 400 trips depending on the size of the items. Extend the route by 50 meters and it adds up to several hours of extra work.

That is why the question «how close can we get with the vehicle?» is one of the first at every viewing. Between a driveway right up to the front door and a vehicle parked a hundred meters away in a side street, there is easily a difference of CHF 400 to CHF 800 on a larger clearance.

What lengthens the carrying distance

No loading space in front of the building, courtyard locations without vehicle access, pedestrian zones, hillside sites with flights of steps between the street and the entrance, underground garages with too little clearance height for a truck, and building sites in the surrounding streets.

It can be shortened by a temporary no-parking zone (Halteverbot — a permit that reserves the curbside directly in front of the building) right outside the property, by using smaller vehicles that shuttle to a larger truck, or by a furniture lift that bypasses the stairwell altogether.

How to check it before you request a quote

Three questions settle most of it: can a 3.5-tonne van stop within about 20 meters of the entrance, are there steps between the parking spot and the door, and is the parking space a blue zone (blaue Zone, the Swiss short-stay parking areas where a disc limits you to one or two hours)? Send the answers, plus a photo of the building entrance from the street, with your enquiry — that alone makes the quote considerably more accurate.
