Junk Removal

Junk removal is the targeted removal of items that are no longer needed from a room, an apartment or a building, without the property necessarily being emptied completely. It differs from a clearance in that the occupant usually stays.
Junk removal or full clearance?
The difference matters in practice, above all for the quote. With a clearance it is clear what goes: everything. With junk removal, a distinction has to be made between what stays and what goes — and that decision is made by the customer, not by the removal team.
That is why junk removal needs more preparation. The most efficient approach is to mark before the appointment what should be taken away. Alternatively we work room by room and have each area released before we empty it. That takes longer, but it is safe.
Typical junk removal jobs
The most common are cellars and attics. Both are rooms that turn into long-term storage over the years and fill up with things whose disposal has been postponed again and again. Garages, lofts, garden sheds and box rooms follow.
A second typical case is clearing out before a renovation or before a sale. Here the point is to bring the property into a presentable or building-ready condition without the occupants moving out.
What junk removal costs
Billing is usually by volume. As a guide figure, Switzerland works with CHF 60 to CHF 120 per cubic metre including transport and disposal, depending on accessibility, type of material and how much sorting is required. An average cellar compartment yields 8 to 15 cubic metres.
A real-world example
A family in Dietikon has the attic cleared out before the birth of their second child to make space. The attic holds around 14 cubic metres: old children's things, a broken sofa, moving boxes from two previous apartments, a cathode-ray television and building material from the last renovation. Four boxes of keepsakes are marked and stay. Effort: half a day, two staff.
